What will you advise someone who plays piano but can't perform in front of people as she afraid of criticism?

Sounds like a confidence and self esteem issue. I'll bet this issue probably goes beyond just playing music. Positive reinforcement will help, but gaining confidence is a long process. What will you advise someone who plays piano but can't perform in front of people as she afraid of criticism?
Well, i dont play the piano, but i did a dance compition last week in front of thousands, and i was nerves as. i guess all you can do is practise till your happy with it, and try practising in front of people, that helps too. If it makes you feel better, imagen that nobodys watching you, and picture something calming in your mind. Also, if your on a dark stage, you normally cant see the crowd, that makes it a lot less scarier!

Let your fingers dance on the keys :)

to just enjoy it and forget everyone else is even watching. Once i went to a performance with the frame of mind that i wanted to enjoy it and just forget what anyone else thought and - i was really good.|Even if you do make a mistake most of the ausience dont even know you have done it and couldnt even tell.If you enjoy the performance than thats all that matters people wont critisise you for playing a wrong note half the time people haven even noticed.

hope this helps

I play piano, and I cannot play in front of an audience. I get physically sick, now assuming your friend does not get physically sick, I would say that she needs to play for people she is comfortable with at first, and then work her way up. She also may be dealing with external confidence issues outside of piano that may be making her feel self conscious while performing.
sounds like a confidence issue. practise until you are happy with your playing and you will want to let others hear you play. you didn't say what age we are talking about -- a young player has time to develop, gain that important confidence and enjoy the experience. an older player needs practise, or maybe even some counselling.
