My husband hit a tree stump with our new riding mower and the shaft is now bend. Any advise on fixing this?

The tractor stalls now whenever the blades are engaged. When he hit the stump it popped and sparked. My husband hit a tree stump with our new riding mower and the shaft is now bend. Any advise on fixing this?
First thing, remove the deck from under the tractor. Running over stuff isnt covered under the warranty. Thats operator error. My bet is the deck is bent in, and touching one of the blades, causing the spark ( i know, ive done it on one of my old tractors) - wear gloves, use a hammer or locking pliers to bend the deck back out so it itsnt touching anymore. Check the spinning of the blades to see if the quill assembly ( deck spindle ) and blade arent bent. Any wobble at all, and its bent. Needs to be replaced. Id suggest marking this stump , so you dont go thru this again. Id suggest making drawings/ taking pictures before removing the deck to ease reassembly. You can officially say the new tractor's been broken in - a new quill is around $60 and up - blades are around $10 and up a piece.

buy a new shaft !
It's always a good idea to give the brand and model number before you begin. If the tree stump is high enough that you cannot drive over it, then you likely bent the leading edge of the deck rearward and it is now jamming one of the mower blades. That would account for the sparks you saw and the fact that the engine stalls whenever you try to engage the mower. Someone needs to remove the deck from the tractor and straighten out the bent area. The mower blade on that side of the deck also needs to be checked for straightness. I can assure you that this is not a warranty issue. Even though you might consider it to be an accident, the manufacturer looks upon it as abuse. I would take it to a mower repair shop and not to the place I bought it from because I wouldn't want them to know about this incident. They could use that knowledge against you should something else happen to this tractor that should be covered under the warranty.
I'm afraid you have to remove the deck off and take it in for repairs.
Time to take the deck off and take it in for repairs. Your manual should tell you how to remove it so you don`t have to take the whole thing in.
Take the deck off and have it fixed. It is always best not to drink while mowing.`
When asking questions such as this, it's always a good idea to give the brand and model number.

First off, I live in Missouri. This is an everyday occurance here. The key word here, is 'new riding mower'. Return it for repair, and it could be warenteed. They might be savy and challenge you on this. Things happen. Git er done.
