I can't work in a conventional way because of ill health. Consequently feel frustrated as there seems no way I can pursue my interests- mainly to do with languages.
I have studied languages in evening class but rarely get the chance to use them: I can afford to go on holiday 2 weeks a year but that is not enough.
My main problem in researching this is that I do not know what such advisers would be calledAre there professionals who advise those with disabilities how to realise their potential?
Vocational Rehabilitation CounselorsAre there professionals who advise those with disabilities how to realise their potential?
yes. occupational therapists and physical therapists, as well as recreational therapists are all people I deal with on a day to day basis at my job at a rehab center. these three aforementioned professionals all have mbas or doctorates and help people achieve maximum potential by strengthening weaknesses and reinforcing strengths.
try to get a referal from your doc.
good luck, hope to have helped :)
In larger cities there are support groups that are specific to each disability. These groups are usually lead by a trained counselor and free to the public. They usually meet once a month in the evenings. I used to go to one for epilepsy. That is how i found my doc, which lead to surgery, and then my drivers license.
