I have engaged a literary agency and they have suggested that I have my ms critiqued. Is this usual? ThanksDo most Literary Agents advise an author get their manuscript critiqued before they send to a publisher?
Beware if the agency is offering a critique of your ms for money or suggesting a critiquing company--these are usually shady people you don't want to do business with.
If the agent response came from a reputable agency and no exchange of money is involved, it is possible the agent sees potential in your piece but feels you are lacking in some writing skill that a critique would help you to become aware of.
Best luck!

Go ahead and do it unless it smells like a scam to you. You should never pay to ';engage a literary agent'; of course.
Is this a reputable agent... are they listed in ';Writer's Market'; or some other guide??? Do they have a record of book placements.... it's OK to ask that by the way.
And if it is up to you to find the editor, it might be OK.
Another help... Strunk's ';Elements of Style'; at New Free Books... a good free resource if you don't have it yet.
I have never published a book, lol. But I would think it to be normal. Would you not want some constructive critique on your story before they publish it for you?
